JURY TESTING SOFTWARE

Acoustical quality analysis can be carried out subjectively with the assistance of a panel of listeners that listen to and judge a set of sounds.
The expert that organises this subjective reading faces two problems :
Ensuring that the test is relevant,
Interpreting the results with a view to obtaining a subjective reading that reflects subjective judgements.

The Acoustic Vibrations Laboratory of the French "National Institute of Applied Sciences" (INSA-LVA) has developed methods of addressing these two factors. MicrodB has integrated these into its software product QualidB

  Carrying out tests

We have made use of the mixed test, which is quick to perform, and the pair comparison test, which has a tried and tested method of use.So as to ensure that a listener's judgements are relevant, control pairs are inserted, circular errors are checked for and reflection times are stored. The listener interface part of the test is pared down to the minimum required for immediate knowledge acquisition .

  Using the results

When it comes to interpreting the results, the listeners are analysed using the criteria cited above, possibly without the analysis, and are then grouped into preference classes, within which there are close auditory similarities. Whatever the test type, a reading is extracted from it, the note scale being left for the expert to define. For pair analysis, the notes can be calculated using different statistical models.
